"And the sky was split apart like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island moved out of their places."
Revelation [6:14]
Now shadows, born of noon, are long and linger.
The oaktrees out of time and anger stand.
Fragmented yellow leaves are what is left
Of the mirror that today broke overland.
Though bronze and men-made statues think to keep
Their olden green like something being said,
They stand to reason, and against all seasons,
That in the clouds The Lore Our God is dead.
True, there will be no Judgement Day - but this:
A planet bleeding out from its gashed sky,
A species crying from the crucifix
Which priests have treasoned with a kiss goodbye.
Heat will be the last Word of the Sun
And the last leaves be weathered from the willow,
As colors clot as if a will were done
And we dry out like paper turning yellow.
