Ob deiner Inkonsequenz, o Herr,

Sprizzano sospettabili scintille
da queste rose - non ti preoccupare!
Non crede il mondo alle fiammelle
e le prende per Poesia.

Seekrankheit - Maldimare, e una cosina sull'inutile bellezza

[...]
pur fosse il tuo dolce suolo coperto
con insensatezza, ussari e versi
tremendi, nonchè tiepidi trattati;
[...]
radunarsi continuo il parlamento,
se il verme del formaggio sia formaggio?
[...]
pur possa stupidità ed ingiustizia
intera ricoprirti, mia Germania!
Anche così, di te, ho la nostalgia:
chè almeno sei ancora terraferma.

"bellerbacce"

Papaveri e fiordalisi nel grano
inutili per lo spirito umano.

Fragen - con Bob Dylan

[...]
es wehet der Wind, es fliehen die Wolken,
es blinken die Sterne, gleichgùltig und kalt,
und ein Narr wartet auf Antwort.

Domande
[...]
il vento soffia, fuggono le nubi,
ammiccano le stelle indifferenti,
ed un giullare attende una risposta.

Heinrich Heine, tedesco, italiano e inglese

Heinrich Heine, Wir saßen am Fischerhause

Wir saßen am Fischerhause,
Und schauten nach der See;
Die Abendnebel kamen,
Und stiegen in die Höh’.

Im Leuchtturm wurden die Lichter
Allmählich angesteckt,
Und in der weiten Ferne
Ward noch ein Schiff entdeckt.

Wir sprachen von Sturm und Schiffbruch,
Vom Seemann, und wie er lebt,
Und zwischen Himmel und Wasser
Und Angst und Freude schwebt.

Wir sprachen von fernen Küsten,
Vom Süden und vom Nord,
Und von den seltsamen Völkern
Und seltsamen Sitten dort.

Am Ganges duftet’s und leuchtet’s,
Und Riesenbäume blühn,
Und schöne, stille Menschen
Vor Lotosblume knien.

In Lappland sind schmutzige Leute,
Plattköpfig, breitmäulig und klein;
Sie kauern ums Feuer und backen
Sich Fische, und quäken und schrein.

Die Mädchen horchten ernsthaft,
Und endlich sprach niemand mehr;
Das Schiff war nicht mehr sichtbar,
Es dunkelte gar zu sehr.

Seduti alla casa di pesca

Seduti alla casa di pesca,
noi guardavamo verso il mare;
vennero nebbie della sera,
e salirono alle altezze.

Lente nel faro le luci
si accesero una alla volta,
ed alla lunga distanza
si scoprì ancora una nave.

Tempeste, incidenti, parlammo,
del marinaio e come vive,
di come fra il cielo e l’acqua
fluttua e fra paura e gioia.

Parlammo di coste lontane,
di meridione e settentrione,
e degli atipici popoli
e rari e dei costumi laggiù.

Al Gange profuma, riluce,
fioriscono alberi giganti,
persone belle e silenziose
s’inginocchiano al fiordiloto.

In Lapponia lurida gente,
di testa piatta e bocca larga;
intorno al fuoco masticano
cuociono il pesce, ruttano.

Ragazze ascoltarono, serie
e infine nessuno più parlò;
la nave non era più in vista,
era diventato buio.

"We sat by the fisherman's cottage..."
Translated by A.Z. Foreman

We sat by the fisherman’s cottage
And stared across the tide.
The evening mists were brewing
And rising high and wide.

The lamps up in the lighthouse
Were turned on, one by one,
And off on the far horizon
A ship appeared, alone.

We spoke then of storm and shipwreck,
Of sailors and life at sea,
And how between heavens and waters
His fears and joys float free.

We spoke of distant shorelines
In southern and northern air,
And of the curious peoples
And curious customs there:

The Ganges all fire and fragrance
Where mighty trees loom up
And quiet beautiful people
Kneel to the Lotus cup.

In Lappland the people are dirty,
Flat-headed, wide-mouthed, and short
They sit by the campfire baking
Their fish as they squall and snort.

The maidens listened in earnest
Then nobody spoke anymore,
The ship was seen no longer
For darkness had covered the shore.

Il pino e la palma

Ein Fichtenbaum steht einsam
im Norden auf kahler Höh';
ihn schläfert; mit weißer Decke
umhüllen ihn Eis und Schnee.

Er träumt von einer Palme,
die, fern im Morgenland,
einsam und schweigend trauert
auf brennender Felsenwand.

Un pino solitario
a nord su un picco brullo;
sonnecchia; bianca coltre
l’avvolge ghiaccio e neve.

Si sogna di una palma,
lontana nell’oriente,
sola e silente in lutto

contro un muro rovente.

Das Fischermädchen

Das Fischermädchen

Du schönes Fischermädchen,
treibe den Kahn ans Land;
komm zu mir und setze dich nieder,
wir kosen Hand in Hand.

Leg an mein Herz dein Köpfchen
und fürchte dich nicht zu sehr;
vertraust du dich doch sorglos
täglich dem wilden Meer.

Mein Herz gleicht ganz dem Meere,
hat Sturm und Ebb' und Flut,
und manche schöne Perle
in seiner Tiefe ruht.

La pescatrice

Tu bella pescatrice,
porta la barca a terra;
vieni da me e siedi,
la mano nella mano.

Sul mio cuore la testolina
non ti spaventare troppo;
ben ti affidi senza paura
ogni dì al selvaggio mare.

Il mio cuore, preciso al mare,
ha le maree e il temporale
e delle belle perle
nelle profondità.

The Fisher Maiden
Translated by A.Z. Foreman

Beautiful fisher maiden,
Come, steer your boat to land.
Come here and sit down beside me,
We’ll dally, hand in hand.

Come, nestle your head on my heart now,
And don’t be afraid of me;
Just think of how bravely, daily
You trust in the savage sea.

My heart is like the water
With storms and waves and tides,
And many a pearl of beauty
Upon its bed resides.
